Waniyetu Wowapi Institute and Art Park

Arts Center Capital Campaign

Double Your Contribution

Donate to the new Waniyetu Wowapi Arts Center today!

On July 9, 2021, CRYP officially broke ground for a new art center on our Eagle Butte campus. This innovative new facility will be the beating heart of our acclaimed Waniyetu Wowapi (Winter Count) Institute & Art Park, and we are working toward a grand opening in summer 2024.

Thanks to generous donors across the country, we are more than three-quarters of the way to meeting our fundraising goal. To raise the final $1 million, the Wayfarer Foundation is offering a matching grant of $500,000.

That means that every $1 you donate between now and Dec. 31, 2023 becomes $2 for our new arts center.

How can you support our Arts Center Building construction?

Please mail your check with “Arts Center Capital Campaign” in the memo line to:

Vibrant New Spaces for Exploration, Expression, and Wólakȟota

The new Waniyetu Wowapi Arts Center will provide dedicated spaces for our youth and community members to learn, explore, create, collaborate, and express themselves in positive, healthy ways. Here, traditional Lakota arts and culture will intersect with contemporary mediums and styles, giving art students access to a variety of resources, tools and inspiration.

The exterior walls will be constantly changing to reflect the vibrant culture of our Cheyenne River Lakota Nation, and generations will gather here to celebrate Wólakȟota, our sacred way of life.

There is no word for “art” in Lakota. Art is simply culture. When we create art and share it, we are reclaiming our ancestral rights, our identity, and our spaces. And together, we are lifting up our community.

We deeply appreciate all contributions to help bring this incredible new arts and culture facility to life — for our young people, and for our community.
