Apply to Volunteer

Before You Apply

Before you submit an application, we ask that you take a moment to consider what voluntary service means to you. Our program demands a great deal from our volunteers — commitment, respect and responsibility are essential qualities. As a volunteer, you will be expected to work long hours, embrace flexibility and remain open-minded and understanding. In return, we offer education, awareness, heartfelt appreciation and a place to call home. Many of our volunteers remark on the immediate connection they feel to South Dakota, Eagle Butte and the Cheyenne River community — and many return for multiple terms of service.

Application Requirements

A complete volunteer application consists of the following:

  1. Volunteer Application – Please complete and submit the official application form, providing details about your background, skills and motivation for volunteering with CRYP.
  2. Three Letters of Recommendation – Applicants must provide three letters of recommendation from individuals who can attest to their character, work ethic and suitability for this volunteer role.
  3. Criminal History Background Check – All volunteers must submit a criminal history background check. Contact your local law enforcement agency to obtain one, and ensure it is sent directly from their office to CRYP at volunteering.cryp@gmail.com.

Next Steps in the Application Process

  1. Video Interview – Upon receipt of the completed application, CRYP will schedule a video interview with our Volunteer Program Coordinator. This discussion will provide an opportunity for applicants to learn more about our program, ask questions and ensure mutual alignment between the volunteer’s expectations and CRYP’s mission.
  2. Acceptance & Required Submissions – If accepted into the program, volunteers must submit:
  3. Proof of Health Insurance – Health insurance coverage must be submitted prior to arrival to ensure proper coverage during the volunteer placement.
  4. Program Fee (see below) – Helps cover transportation from the airport, facilities costs and volunteer-related expenses, including a CRYP volunteer T-shirt. Payments can be made online through our Give page, or volunteers may reach out to the Volunteer Program Coordinator to discuss any concerns or questions regarding the fee.
  5. Refundable Damage Deposit – A $100 refundable deposit, which will be returned upon completion of the volunteer placement, provided no damages occur to CRYP facilities.
  6. Confirmation & Placement – After successful completion of the interview and submission of all required materials, CRYP will finalize the volunteer placement and provide logistical details for arrival and participation.
