As most of you are already aware, our tiny CRYP staff has been working incredibly hard for weeks, attempting to bring Santa Claus to Cheyenne River on time. Unfortunately, the challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic and lack of volunteer support have been enormous — and for the first time in more than 30 years, Santa will be delayed. We also can no longer accept new “Dear Santa” letters.
We’re heartbroken to have to share this news. But we’re also determined. We’re extending our Wo Otuh’an Wi (Moon of Giving Away Presents) as long as necessary to make sure every single family receives their Christmas box. We will start making calls as soon as we can, and deliveries will take place throughout late December and into early January.
Please know we are doing our best. And to our precious children: Santa Claus and his elves are working hard, around the clock, to get the sleigh to Cheyenne River. We’re not quite sure when the reindeer will be able to fly, but as soon as we know, we’ll share that joyous news.
We know how difficult this is, and we’re grateful for your patience and understanding. This is an unusual, exhausting, once-in-a-century experience that we’re enduring. But we will get through it together.
