My name is Margo Brings Plenty. I am Oglala and Cheyenne River Lakota, and I am descended from Wounded Knee survivor Sophie E. Smith-Brings Plenty, my grandmother. My parents are Enoch and Della Brings Plenty. I grew up in Porcupine, South Dakota, and moved back to Eagle Butte, South Dakota, in 2012. I am currently taking classes at Oglala Lakota College, where I am pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Lakota studies.
As an office assistant for the Cheyenne River Youth Project, I am responsible for various office-related duties as well as taking care of the Keya Gift Shop & E-Store. I also assist with CRYP’s Family Services program. I really enjoy how our work environment incorporates the seven Lakota values—and serving a community in which I was raised. These days, I visit a lot with our elders and listen to their wisdom, and I love teaching our youth about our Lakota history and culture.
