(details below)

CRYP’s long-running Passion for Fashion program is designed to help Cheyenne River’s teens prepare for the prom — while also developing positive self-esteem, building and strengthening their relationships, and celebrating who they are as Lakota people. The program’s Lakota name is Wačhípí kta Iglúwiŋyeyapi, which means “Youth Get Ready for the Dance.”

CRYP’s staff, donors, and volunteers are committed to giving our community’s young women and two-spirit youth the prom experiences that all American high-schoolers should be able to enjoy. But at its heart, Wačhípí kta Iglúwiŋyeyapi is about so much more than that. It’s about providing meaningful opportunities to learn from Lakota leaders and culture bearers, bond with family members and friends, and build new relationships. And, this inclusive event is about personal empowerment through positive body image, improved self-confidence, and deep connection with Lakota culture.
