In conjunction with this year’s Eagle Butte Hometown Days celebration, the Cheyenne River Youth Project® will host a special basketball tournament on Friday, July 20 for teens at the Cokata Wiconi Teen Center. Scheduled for 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., the event is part of CRYP’s summer Midnight Basketball season — but taken to a much larger scale in honor of the citywide celebration.
“We’re going to be hosting a big 5-on-5 tournament during Midnight Basketball on the 20th, five players and only one sub,” said Tammy Granados, CRYP’s wellness coordinator and the event organizer. “Winners will get hooded sweaters, and the second-place team will receive T-shirts printed right here in our art studio.”
There is no entry fee to participate in the tournament, and ages 13-18 are welcome.
CRYP also plans to participate in the city rummage sale, host an Indian taco sale in Cokata Wiconi’s Keya Cafe and staff a booth in the city’s arts and crafts fair. Visitors to the booth may purchase items from the CRYP Gift Shop, including dried and canned foods from the youth project’s 2-acre, naturally grown Winyan Toka Win Garden, as well as handmade jewelry and other local crafts. All proceeds benefit CRYP’s youth programming and services.
This year’s Eagle Butte Hometown Days will run from Thursday, July 19 to Sunday, July 22. A variety of special activities and events will allow residents and visitors alike to celebrate the rich, diverse heritage of this 102-year-old South Dakota community.
