On Saturday, April 21, the Cheyenne River Youth Project® in Eagle Butte will host the 2012 Youth Basketball 5-on-5 Tournament in its Cokata Wiconi Teen Center gymnasium. The tournament is open to boys and girls, ages 8-13; Cokata Wiconi’s doors will open at 9:30 a.m., with the games to begin at 10 a.m.
To date, nine teams have signed up to participate.
“I’m so excited about the number of teams we’ve gotten on board so far,” according to Tammy Eagle Hunter, CRYP’s wellness coordinator. “Not only is it an important fundraiser for our youth programming and services, it’s a great way for our local community to get together, have fun and show support for our young people.”
All proceeds from admissions, concessions and team sponsorships will benefit the 24-year-old, not-for-profit youth organization. Every dollar raised will automatically be doubled, thanks to a $75,000 matching grant from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux (Dakota) Community in Minnesota.
Spectators may attend the event for $5 per person at the door, while interested teams may participate for a $25 fee. That fee can come from the players themselves or from community members and businesses that wish to serve as team sponsors.
“We’re asking all teams to register no later than 6 p.m. on April 20,” Eagle Hunter advised. “That way, we’ll know exactly how many teams will be participating before the doors open the next day.”
To register your team for the youth tournament, to ask questions and to get more information, call Tammy Eagle Hunter at (605) 964-8200 or send an email to tammy.cryp@gmail.com.
In other CRYP news: The Colorado- and Wisconsin-based photographers who donated their time to provide professional studio and runway photography during this year’s Passion for Fashion event have made all of the images available through an online gallery. Interested teens and their families may visit the gallery at http://steinbergerphoto.zenfolio.com/pff and order additional images at a special low price — simply what it costs to print them.
“Every girl who attended Passion for Fashion and participated in the “Fashion Week” studio and runway activities took home free studio and catwalk pictures,” explained Megan Guiliano, CRYP’s youth programs director.
“Then we started getting comments from parents, saying how much they loved the images and asking if they could order more. So Richard Steinberger and Matt Normann generously made the images available in such a way that the families can order directly from the photo lab.”
