CRYP will host its annual Harvest Festival Dinner for the community on Wednesday, Oct. 17. Scheduled for 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Cokata Wiconi (Center of Life), the event is open free to the public.

Designed to celebrate CRYP’s Native Food Sovereignty initiatives and the abundant harvest from the 2-acre, organic Winyan Toka Win (Leading Lady) Garden, the Harvest Festival will incorporate homemade menu items such as sautéed spaghetti squash, stew, wojapi, fresh bread, salads, casseroles, carrot cake, zucchini bread and more. Many of the dishes will incorporate fresh, nutritious, locally grown produce from Winyan Toka Win.

“We’re inviting the entire Cheyenne River community to join us for an evening of fellowship and great food,” says Jerica Widow, youth programs director. “Along with the harvest, we’ll be celebrating the many ways our garden helps strengthen our connections to Lakota values and life ways.

“This is our 30th year of service to the Cheyenne River Lakota Nation,” she continues. “We’re going all-out in our efforts to show our community and our children how much they mean to us.”
