This summer, CRYP welcomed Leah Lourenco to Eagle Butte through Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF), a global movement that connects visitors with organic farms and gardens for hands-on learning and cultural exchange.
A recent college graduate who grew up on a small farm in Missouri, Leah was looking for a meaningful way to spend her summer break. She hoped to learn from people with different perspectives, give back to communities in the Midwest and deepen her knowledge of sustainable growing practices. When she discovered CRYP through WWOOF, she knew it could bring those interests together.
“I am most looking forward to interacting with the youth as well as spending some time learning sustainable practices in the garden,” Leah shared before her visit.
WWOOF-USA helps connect people who are interested in organic food systems and ecological farming with hosts who can share their knowledge and experience. At CRYP, that exchange reaches beyond the garden. Volunteers have an opportunity to learn about the organization’s approach to food sovereignty, youth development and community while contributing their own time and energy to the work taking place each day. We are grateful to Leah for choosing to spend part of her summer with us!
